Dr. Oz Teams Up With Michelle Obama To Battle Childhood Obesity ...

What do talk show host and famed physician Dr. Mehmet Oz and First Lady Michelle Obama have in common? A determination to battle obesity in children, which has become a national epidemic. From improving school lunches to enhancing her ?Let?s Move? campaign, the First Lady talked with Dr. Oz on his Nov. 22 show about what she wants to do to help overweight and obese children lose weight safely.

Michelle Obama?s ?Let?s Move? campaign is designed to achieve three goals:

- encourage the nation?s children to exercise

- provide healthy food in school cafeterias

- offer parents guidance on how to help their children eat right and get fit

She recommends that kids enjoy a minimum of one hour daily of active playtime, from jumping rope (which she demonstrated with Dr. Oz) to dancing. Offer fruit or vegetables at each meal, and encourage your children to drink water or low-fat milk rather than soda or juice. Make simple changes to meals, such as swapping whole wheat pasta for white flour pasta. In addition, when families eat together, they tend to eat healthier meals, according to researchers at Rutgers University. Consider this as your family motto: ?The family that eats together and plays together stays healthy together!?
