The ongoing dramedy otherwise known as the 2012 NBA free agent period has seen more temperate moves this weekend. We got a vet going from Disney World to the Big Easy plus an update on the NBA?s least favorite center. Let?s get to it.
Ryan Anderson, last year?s Most Improved Player recipient, got rewarded with a sign-and-trade to the Hornets for Gustavo Ayon. Yup, I?m not familiar with Gustavo or his game either. Anyway, Orlando has been long suspected of letting Anderson go once his rookie contract dried up. I can only see such a move as a money concern as Ryan Anderson has developed into a quality power forward with dreams of being a stretch 4. Ryan?s a pretty good shooter who should spread the floor while Anthony Davis works inside. NO?s, though, still has a ways to go before they elevate in their stacked conference.
Making moves like Ryan?s deal and building through the draft will get them on their way towards making noise sooner rather than later. Of course, much of their planned advancement has to do with locking up Eric Gordon who?s become a rogue restricted free agent. Somebody better sit him down and tell him what the ?restricted? part of his status is all about.
And now here we are with our least favorite part of today?s findings: Dwight Howard and his potential destination. CBS Sports? Ken Berger reported LA and Brooklyn have been fighting over the league?s top center. Houston?s not ready to bow out either as they hope their army of draft picks strikes Orlando?s GM Rob Hennigan as the ultimate rebuilding deal. Boy, Houston?s front office is pretty beat for what will likely be a one year rental.
Berger also said Brooklyn might?ve found the third team they needed in order to make a trade for Howard happen. Dan Gilbert?s front office has its eyes on Kris Humphries as a replacement for Anderson Varejao. The obvious storylines have run throughout sports media since the Cavs entered the fray. I?ll just say, with confidence, Gilbert?s getting involved out of the goodness of his heart and wants to see his team win.
Another deal via Yahoo Sports?s Adrian Wojnarowski has Varejao staying put with a sea of players changing homes all for Dwight. The details of the trade make it look like something out of NBA 2K12. Like I said before I?m ready to start the season with Brook Lopez and depth intact. That way there?ll be less focus on the incoming hate and more on building a promising team with defined roles: even without the league?s best 5. Either way let?s hope Hennigan and his crew find a place for Dwight so we can get on with our basketball lives.
What about LA?s chances at trading for Dwight with Andrew Bynum? Ken said Andrew?s reportedly not interested in signing with Orlando long term and instead offered his own list of destinations. Bynum, after addressing the media, may or may not have hit the gym to practice more threes. I know this because I share sources with Chris Broussard. We?ll keep you updated as Dwightmare progresses.
